If I knew then what I know now…
I’ve been going through a lot of old college pictures and such lately. It’s got me to thinking… I wish I knew then what I know now. That’s not really a new sentiment. I think everyone goes through that kind of phase.
What would I have done differently?
What would I have made sure to do the same?
How would I have made sure that I maximized my time?
It got me thinking. There’s nothing I can do about the past. What’s done is done. If anything had changed, I might not be where I am now.
What’s done is done. But what about now?
In 15 years, I’ll be looking back at pictures of Spencer and Dexter playing football or playing baseball. I’ll be watching videos we took while in Disney World. I’ll be thinking back to my career choices and my decisions made at home.
15 years from now, will I be wondering if I could have maximized my time? Will I wish I had spent more time with the boys? Will I wish I had been involved more in scouting, teaching or family? Will I have any regrets?
Now is the time to think about such things. I can only guess at what I will consider important 15 years from now. That’s where the whole “learning from your elders” thing comes in to play.
